Malibu
Malibu is one of California’s most affluent cities, with a population over 12,000 inhabiting over 21 miles of scenic coastline directly northwest of Los Angeles. Rich in history that dates back to the Chumash Indians, Malibu means, “the surf sounds loudly”. This renowned surf brings people from all over the world to the beautiful shores of Malibu. Its lively history includes the saga of the Rindge family, who fought an epic battle with the state of California to preserve the private enclave, Rancho Malibu. Although the family eventually lost that battle, the city has maintained the independent western spirit embodied by its original residents.
The city’s locals epitomize the Southern California lifestyle with passion for healthy living, the outdoors, and community kindness. Most of the residents live near the beach along Malibu’s main thoroughfare, the Pacific Coast Highway, although there are also beautiful homes, vineyards, and ranches in the gorgeous canyons and hillsides that roll into the Pacific Ocean. The Malibu home aesthetic is diverse: from ultra-modernist architecture to Cape-Cod style beach homes to warm Mediterranean homes with brilliantly colored locally made tile. Currently the median home price is $1,644,500, although there are many luxury homes that soar above that range in purchase price. Beachfront property is a prized commodity, and gated communities are highly valued for their privacy. With Los Angeles a quick 30 minute drive away, Malibu provides the scenery and tranquility of a small community with quick access to the city. For many, Malibu real estate provides the best of both worlds.

The central properties have broad and sandy lots. Over the years the prices have risen higher and higher because of the high profile residents and pristine beach. Centrally located in the heart of Malibu, with homes directly off of the Pacific Coast Highway, the famous and historic Malibu Beach Inn is also resident to Carbon Beach. With relatively difficult public beach access, the majority of Malibu’s visitors stay north of Malibu Pier, the unofficial border of Carbon Beach.

The gated community of Serra Retreat was once historic ranchlands and the owners still have the charge through the Property Owners’ Association of maintaining the immaculate nature of Malibu Canyon.
