Carbon Beach Real Estate
Located on the eastern side of Malibu, closer to Los Angeles than most other beachfront property, Carbon Beach is one of the most famed and desired areas for luxury Malibu Real Estate. Undoubtedly the most prized real estate in Malibu, Carbon Beach is famous for its celebrity and high profile homeowners. Some of the richest and most powerful people in America have homes on Carbon Beach including Eli Broad, David Geffen, Richard Riordan, Jeffery Katzenberg and Haim Saban. It is not uncommon for one owner to purchase a luxury home only to tear it down and build another.
The renowned Oracle magnate, Larry Ellison, has had something of a love affair with Carbon Beach real estate. Ellison owns no less than 12 homes and 2 restaurants (the famed Nobu and the popular new Massimiliano Blasone establishment Nikita) on Carbon Beach. Carbon Beach is a beautiful wide and sandy coastline east of the Malibu pier. There is an expanse of sand above the high tide line, making Carbon Beach one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in California. The Carbon Beach community is Malibu’s most exclusive and is known for its ultra-wealthy residents.
The central properties have broad and sandy lots. Over the years the prices on Carbon Beach have risen higher and higher because of the high profile residents and pristine sand. The original 1930’s beach homes have all but been replaced by top-of-the-line modernist and cape-cod style mansions. Such famed architects as John Lautner, Richard Meier, and Michael Graves have all built homes on Carbon Beach.
Carbon Beach is centrally located in the heart of Malibu, with homes directly off of the Pacific Coast Highway. While many homes appear to be modest from the highway side, their true luxury and high echelon facades face the beautiful white sands of Carbon Beach. Keeping in line with the outstanding Carbon Beach real estate, the famous Malibu Beach Inn is also resident to Carbon Beach. The Malibu Beach Inn is a gorgeous luxury hotel, with an exclusive 47 rooms, each with private balcony, ocean views, spa services and beachfront gourmet dining.
At the western edge of Carbon Beach is the historic Malibu Pier, which has been under renovation for the last several years and is just re-opening to the public for authentic Malibu amusement. Built in 1905, the pier was used by the Coast Guard during World War II, and became a home to restaurants, retail, and fishing outfits since the 60s, but was closed after the heavy storms of 1994. Just recently the Malibu Pier has partially re-opened, with Coastal Tours and Gift Shop having opened in 2012 and Ruby’s Restaurant, whale watching, charter fishing trips, beach equipment rentals, anchorage, and surf museum to open soon. Once the pier is fully restored a vital part of Malibu’s historical culture will be available to the public once again, right at the gateway to the gorgeous Carbon Beach. For now, the majority of Malibu’s visitors stay north of Malibu Pier, the unofficial border of Carbon Beach real estate.
